Thanks to Dakota Collegiate and the Winnipeg Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy program for the grant for Alpha House programming. This money will help us to continue to provide the very best services possible to the women and children in our program.
Thanks to the Winnipeg Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation for the $1500.00 donation to be used for activities and outings for the children at Alpha House this summer. This money allows us to provide an opportunity for children to laugh, play and to “be a kid”. This donation will help us to provide an amazing summer to the children living in the shelter.
Thanks to the Jewish Foundation for the $5000.00 grant. With this money we were able to replace badly worn furniture used by the families residing at Alpha House. We are very thankful to the Jewish Foundation for their support. The families who benefited from the new furniture are very happy.
On February 14, 2017, Arts Student Body Council is partnering with the Woymn’s Centre, the University of Manitoba Students’ Union, Justice for Women, the Women’s and Gender Studies Students’ Association, and the University of Manitoba Aboriginal Students’ Association, Jack.orgUmanitoba and the University of Manitoba Muslim Student Association, to organize a day of awareness around domestic violence.U of M will be hosting a domestic violence awareness day. During this event there will be bake sales, button& ribbon sales, and other fundraisers to raise money for Alpha House. This should be an amazing event to raise awareness on this very important topic. I look forward to attending this event and speaking at this event.
I came into Alpha House very afraid, and with so many worries, that my head could not wrap around. The immediate supports that were available to me helped me and my children in so many positive, nurturing and calming ways. If that support was not available it would have left me and my children with no hope. Thank you Alpha House, for my ongoing support groups, and individual sessions to work through so many hard emotional times. The craft times, outings, the healing process – it was not like a shelter but a family. We were able to have a normal life and for me that was huge because life in abuse is anything but “normal”.
This year long journey was my blessing, and the positive growth I see in myself and my children only makes me stronger. My time at Alpha House was secure, warm, nurturing and generous. This is truly a place of healing, a journey forward not back.
On November 2, 2016 Alpha House held their annual gala fundraising dinner. It was a huge success! Thank you to all who came out to the event. A special thank you to Investors Group as the platinum sponsor and to the following table sponsors; Cando Rail Services, Industrial Truck Services, Quintex and Murdoch Management and a special thank you to all the businesses that donated silent auction prizes. We thank you for your interest and support.
Donations are an important resource to help support our programs and to provide a safe place for clients to heal. The gala fundraiser helps us to continue to provide the very best service possible to the families at Alpha House.
